June is a month to celebrate! The sun is shining and every weekend is full of exciting day trips. Yes, summer has definitely graced us with its presence, and while it is something to embrace, there is also the matter of finding activities and meals to keep your children occupied.

If you have the opportunity, day trips is a fun, cost effective way of entertaining your children, and yourself!

Farmers Market:

Big a reusable bag and hit up a local farmers market to pick fresh vegetables, breads and fruits. Then, go home and together cook a delicious dinner to eat outside.

The Zoo:

This is another great place that exposes your children to educating themselves about animals, what they eat, their habits etc… Sometimes they offer coupons, or buy one get one free admission.

Local Festivals:

These usually run on weekends, so the whole family can enjoy local artisans, shows, food and music. Watch your local newspapers or festival guides for happenings in your area.

Volunteering:

Maybe your children aren’t quite old enough to get a job, but have the drive to work? Try setting them up with a volunteering opportunity 2 days a week. This can include walking dogs at an animal shelter or sorting food at a food bank.

Hiking & Biking:

Take advantage of the warmer weather by exploring off beaten bike paths and biking trails. Pack a picnic and make it a day long adventure.

Tasty meal ideas:

After long summer days of engaging in all of these activities, you will be looking to wind down with a delicious, home cooked meal using products from Summer Fresh.

Roasted Red Pepper Corn:

Brush cobs of corn with Summer Fresh Roasted Red Pepper Dip and grill on the BBQ.

Toasted Corn Bread & Bruschetta:

Cut chunks of corn bread and toast until crispy. Toss with Summer Fresh Bruschetta and serve as a great appetizer.

Easy Layered Pad Thai Salad:

In a large bowl, layer Summer Fresh Pad Thai Salad followed by bean sprouts. Heat if desired and serve with spicy chilis sprinkled on top.

Five Cheese Layered Potatoes:

Slice red skin potatoes and layer in a dish; spread Summer Fresh Five Cheese Dip on top, followed by more sliced potatoes and dip. Top with bread crumbs and bake until potatoes are cooked through.

Greek Couscous Grilled Stuffed Peppers:

Hollow out a sweet red pepper and fill with Summer Fresh Greek Couscous Salad. Top with additional crumbled feta cheese. Place of the BBQ and grill until pepper is soft. Drizzle with Summer Fresh Aged Cheddar & Chipotle Dip before serving.

Spicy Artichoke & Asiago Chicken:

Brush Summer Fresh Spicy Artichoke & Asiago Dip onto chicken breast and grill on the BBQ until cooked through. Eat as a meal or cut up over a salad.

Gourmet Bean Tacos:

Heat Summer Fresh Gourmet Bean Salad and fill soft tortilla shells. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese, roll and serve.
